Air Traffic Service Assistant

Job Description:

Lydd Airport is a busy diverse airport serving a wide range of aircraft operations including: commercial, corporate, private, training, military and unmanned aircraft.

We’re excited to advertise the position of Air Traffic Service Assistant. Our ATSAs carry out operational and administrative work in the Control Tower assisting the Air Traffic Controllers to achieve a safe, orderly and expeditious flow of air traffic.

Ultimately reporting to the Head of Airspace and Innovation, the ATSAs are supervised day-to-day by the team of friendly duty ATCOs. Procedures are laid down in various manuals and full training is given in-house, following a training plan.

This is an exciting opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and experience within the aviation sector, and work in a dynamic and challenging environment. Extensive training will be provided by current Controllers and Assistants, as well opportunities for external training.

ATSAs demonstrating exceptional ability and dedication may be considered for further training towards a controller’s licence.

Main Duties

Whilst the specific details of the ATSA duties are included in the local Manual of Air Traffic Services, the main duties are listed below:

● Receiving and making operational telephone calls

● Relaying ATCO instructions to vehicles by ground UHF radio

● Coordinating refuelling and marshalling etc by UHF radio

● Processing flight plans and related messages

● Preparing and updating flight data strips

● Preparing and disseminating weather observations

● Updating ATIS and ATCO ops display board

● Carry out basic daily equipment checks and record data

● Maintaining aircraft movement log and statistics

● File, display, update operational paperwork

● Liaise with based and external emergency services

● Complete local incident reports

● Liaise with other Airport Departments and Operators

● Ensure adequate supplies of stationery in ATC

● Ensure the Control Tower is tidy

● Undertake basic maintenance of metrological equipment

 

Qualifications, Requirements and Experience

Essential:

● Good standard of numeracy and spoken and written English

● Familiarity with computer systems and applications

● For the duration of employment, a current, clean DBS check to satisfy airport security standards.

● 5yr work/academic history check

● Good organisational skills and able to multi-task

● Team worker and customer focused

● Enthusiastic and flexible, prepared to work shifts involving weekends, bank holidays and some unsociable hours

Desirable:

● Knowledge or experience within the aviation industry

● Met Observer’s Certificate an advantage

● Drivers license

Remuneration and Benefits

Hours: Average 40hrs per week rostered in shifts which may include weekend days, bank holidays and unsociable hours
Salary: £26,937pa
Annual Leave: 30 days annual leave including BH
Pension scheme
Occasional voluntary overtime
