The History of Lydd International Airport

Lydd is steeped in local history. Romney Marsh formed part of the Cinque Ports, a chain of coastal forts designed to defend the southern and eastern coast of Roman Britain from the increasing raids by Barbarian tribes. The ports then became local trade hubs enriched by imports from Normandy and beyond. A natural successor to our former heritage, this important location has been revitalised by aerospace innovation now providing an environmentally friendly hub for the South of England.
