UAS AIRSPACE INTEGRATION & INNOVATION
Lydd Airport is a first mover in the creation of Fixed wing and UAS integration practices. Home to the only integrated airspace in the UK, Lydd Airport operates a secure and regulated UAS airspace.
Drone Request Form
In order to fly a UAS within Lydd Airports Airspace you must complete a Drone Request Form.
Lydd Airport Drone Policy (UAS Operations)
1. Introduction
Lydd Airport (IATA: LYX, ICAO: EGMD) operates within a secure and regulated airspace to ensure the safety and efficiency of all aviation activities. The operation of drones (Unmanned Aircraft Systems – UAS) within the vicinity of the airport is subject to strict control to protect both manned aircraft operations and public safety.
2. Controlled Airspace and Flight Restriction Zone (FRZ)
Lydd Airport is surrounded by a Flight Restriction Zone (FRZ) in accordance with UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) regulations. This includes:
A 2–5 km horizontal radius around the aerodrome boundary.
A vertical restriction up to 400 feet above ground level.
Extended zones along the runway centrelines.
Unauthorised UAS operations within this zone are illegal and may be subject to enforcement action by authorities.
3. Permission to Operate UAS
To operate a drone within Lydd Airport’s FRZ or near its regulated airspace, prior permission must be obtained from the Aerodrome Operator. This applies to all drone operators, including hobbyists, commercial users, and emergency services (unless covered by standing agreements).
Request Procedure:
